Juraj Kuniak: Poet of the Country

Poet, writer, translator, former constructor, mountaineer, and entrepreneur Juraj Kuniak was born in 1955. In 1990, he founded the Skalná ruža publishing house, which he still manages today. He has published over 20 books of various genres, but his primary domain poetry. The author of ten poetry collections, he is perceived as a poet of the landscape and global issues. He made his debut with a collection of poems titled Projection on Eyelids (Premietanie na viečka, 1983). His latest collection How We Became (Ako sme sa stali, 2022) was nominated for the Zlatá vlna Award. He translates American poetry (Whitman, Hass). He resides in the mountain village of Kordíky.
