Peter Šulej: Fear of the Passage of Time

Peter Šulej (* 1967) is one of the main representatives of experimental poetry, an author of novels, radio plays, co-author of dance performances and organizer of literary life. He also works as the editor-in-chief of the magazine on contemporary culture and art Vlna. He lives in Bratislava.

So far, his poetry collections have been published: Porno (1994), Kult (Cult, 1996) and Pop (1998), all in one edition as Prvá trilógia (The First Trilogy, 2010), and the so-called Modrá trilogie (Blue Trilogy) – Návrat veľkého romantika (The Return of the Great Romantic, 2001), Archetypálne leto (An Archetypal Summer, 2003), Koniec modrého obdobia (End of the Blue Period, 2008). His other works include Nódy (Nodes, 2014) and Rotácie (Rotations, 2020). He is also the co-author of the project Generátor x: Hmlovina (Generator x: Nebula, 1999) and the author of two collections of science fiction short stories: Misia (Mission, 1995), for which he received the Karel Čapek Award for best short story, and Elektronik Café (2001). He also co-created four dance performances: Love in Bilingual Motion (theme, lyrics 2004), Anjel 2 (Angel 2, concept, lyrics, 2008), Všetko, čo mám rada (Everything I Love, lyrics, 2012) and Objekty výskumu, Objects of Research, concept, 2013). His novels include História (2009) and books nominated for the Anasoft Litera award Spolu (Together, 2016) and Fytopaleontológia (2019). In early 2025, he published his latest novel, Chronofóbia. His poetic and prose works have been translated into many European languages – in eleven author’s book publications and several anthologies.
