The writer Katarína Kucbelová (*1979) comes from Banska Bystrica. Her first poetry collection Duals came out in 2003, followed by poetry books Sport (2006), Little Big City (2008) and Knows Well What to Do (2013). Her poetic composition To White (2022) was awarded the Central European Václav Burian Prize, the Golden Wave Prize and the Tatra Bank Foundation Prize. In 2019 her first book of prose appeared, the story The Bonnet, which has also received numerous awards. Her novel Blueblindness came out in 2023. “I like it when prose has structure, a storyline and clear characters – although in both of my books there are more storylines I interweave, telling them out of a chronological order, working with flashbacks, but I know from the start what I am writing about. This is no random or loose process, as would be the case with poetry.”
