Jakub Juhás, born in Lučenca in 1990, is a writer and curator in the culture hub LOM in Bratislava that focuses on contemporary forms of sound media and acoustic ecology. He also runs the experimental music publishing house mappa. His first book The New Year’s Ascent to Jasenina came out in 2016. His second book PS (2022) came out in Prague with Rubato Publishers. “Listening stood at the start of the book. I was interested in what sounds can be found down there in the valley, in the wall of a dam, in the sewage plant, in the village. The other side are novel approaches, searching for new matter and its unconventional structures. Naturally, an experiment doesn’t have to succeed. In that lies its charm. To listen is all right, but to listen critically is more. No need to fear,” he says.
