Jakub Spevák: Coming-out and cleansing from lies

Jakub Spevák (* 1996) graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava with a degree in film scriptwriting and dramaturgy. Since 2019, he has been a member of the program team of the Fest Anča International Animation Festival and since 2022, its program director. As a curator, he has compiled short film sections for various foreign festivals, including the most prestigious animation festival in the world, in Annecy.

His literary work has been awarded in the Povidka, Akademický Prešov and Medziriadky competitions. He made his debut with the novella Po funuse (After the Funeral, 2022, KK Bagala), which was nominated for the Anasoft litera 2023 award. Spevák’s short stories have been published, for example, in the collections Poviedka 2019 (anthology from the competition; KK Bagala), Príbehy o coming-oute (Stories of Coming-out, 2022, Nomantinels) or Kvír fantazijné svety (Queer Fantasy Worlds, 2024, Nomantinels). In April 2025, he published a new book titled Všetko, čo som ti nestihol povedať (Everything I Haven’t Had Time to Tell You, N Press), which he dedicated to his father and himself.

He has collaborated as a screenwriter and dramaturge on several films that have been successfully presented at international festivals. He is currently writing a screenplay for a feature film.
