 – Slovakia

Dominika Sakmárová (1990) comes from eastern Slovakia, from a town directly below the Spiš Castle. In addition to Sinology, which she studied at Charles University in Prague, folklore has also won her heart. She is intensely devoted to it as a member of the singing group Rusínske trio, known from television screens, she also leads her own folklore group, which has been active in Spiš for almost a decade.

In addition, she was also won over by the culture of the “Far East”. Her first steps towards Asia were with the goal of improving her language skills. During her studies, she devoted herself to blogging; articles about life in the Far East have gaind great reader interest and thanks to them she even earned an audience at the presidential palace. Dominika Sakmárová’s fourth book, Biele mesto (White City, Ikar, 2024), comprises of seven short stories connected by geographical location. Unlike her previous “Asian” books, this one takes place in the heart of Spiš – in Spišské Podhradie and the surrounding villages. The stories blend real history with the fantastic, even magical.
