Veronika Šikulová: One large text
– Slovakia

Born in 1967 in Modra, Veronika Šikulová studied journalism at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava. She is a librarian and columnist in multiple newspapers and magazines. She wrote over ten books (prose, nonfiction, essays and books for children and young readers). She debuted with the poetry collection Odtiene (Shades, 1997) and her latest collection is titled Petrichor (2016). “I wouldn’t exaggerate if I said that Veronika Šikulová has been writing a single long text ever since she published Shades; at its heart, there is the unmistakable autobiographic “strong” subject that further on becomes the starting point for exploring intimate family relationships – with her father, mother, partner and children,” wrote Ivana Taranenková about her work.
